Women whose family members or loved ones are critical of their weight tend to put on even more kilos, new research says.
Women who were accepted by their loved ones as they were or received what the researchers call weight acceptance messages saw better weight maintenance and even weight loss than their counterparts who did not receive positive messages from their loved ones, the findings showed.
"We all know someone who points out our weight gain or offers to help us lose weight.
These results suggest that these comments are misguided," said lead researchers professor Christine Logel from Renison University College at University of Waterloo in Canada.Feeling better about themselves caused the women to be more active or eat more sensibly, the researchers suggested.
Receiving unconditional acceptance might have lowered their stress, a known cause of weight gain.
The researchers studied young women.
Women, who received comparatively few weight acceptance messages from their loved ones gained almost 4.5 pounds (2.04 kg) on an average, whereas women who received comparatively more weight acceptance messages lost a pound (0.45 kg).
The results showed that when women concerned about their weight, hear that their loved ones accepted them as they are, they felt better about their bodies, and subsequently they did not gain like other women did.
The study appeared in the journal Personal Relationships.

4-inch heart, not 56-inch chest needed

4-inch heart, not 56-inch chest needed to come to Parliament Opposition's taunt Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to make a statement on Monday in Rajya Sabha, which has witnessed uproar for almost a fortnight now over the opposition's continued attack on the government in the conversion controversy.
A united opposition on Monday said the government is following "an unacceptable agenda" of trying to convert Muslims and Christians to Hinduism and demanded a statement from PM Modi in Rajya Sabha, where the NDA government is in a minority.
"You don't need a 56-inch chest to come here; you just need a four-inch heart to come here," Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien said, referring to Modi's famous claim to having a big and strong chest. "The PM must give a statement. All this is a threat to integrity and unity of our nation," CPI's D Raja said.
This session of Parliament ends on Tuesday and Parliament's paralysis over conversions has made the government unable to push through important economic reforms.
On Saturday, Rashtriya Swayamsvak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat said that India is a "Hindu nation" where many Hindus had been forcibly converted to other religions. "We will bring back those who have lost their way. They did not go on their own," Bhagwat said.
Bhagwat's comments came after the BJP said it did not support forced religious conversions and called for an anti-conversion law. Modi has been under fire for being slow to rein in hardline affiliate groups that have been accused of promoting a Hindu-dominant agenda that includes luring Muslims and Christians to convert to Hinduism.
Last week, Modi attended Rajya Sabha but refused to address the House which has been protesting ever since a controversial conversion event was organised in Agra by right-wing groups two weeks ago

Indian Super League: Kolkata celebrates win

DADA'S TEAM WON THE MATCH

The wintry chill sets in Kolkata at this time of December. Fires are lit in some street corners with pavement dwellers huddling around it.
But that does not deter some city folks from celebrating the Sourav Ganguly- co-owned Atletico de Kolkata's (ATK) victory in the first edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) - football tournament.
Apart from Sourav, ATK is co-owned by city-based businessmen, Sanjiv Goenka; Harsh Neotia and Utsav Parekh.
ATK defeated the Kerala franchise by a goal (to none) to lift the first ISL trophy. The final was played at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
As "Dada's team" (Sourav fondly called Dada or elder brother in Bengal) won; his frenzied supporters took to the streets with firecrackers and impromptu dance jigs.
The winter chill might have stopped celebrations to reach such ecstatic levels as one saw when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their IPL trophy earlier this year; but in the "Mecca of football" (as Kolkata is fondly-called) Christmas had come in early.
Even before the match had begun, the game was hyped as one between Sachin (co-owner of the Kerala franchise) and Sourav. And, social media was abuzz with updates of the game.
So it was no surprise when the hundreds of viewers that thronged the malls in the city let out a collective sigh as a free kick by ATK flew over the bars.
Cheers and claps followed when ATK goalie - Edel Bete- fended off opponents' attacks and made one save after another. Nervous moments saw pin-drop silence.
But the moment of reckoning came when Mohammed Rafique headed one into the Kerala net (during added time) to take ATK home

ILAYATHALAPATHY- most googled actor in 2014

'Ilayathalapathy' Vijay Beats Ajith, Suriya, Rajinikanth to Become Most Googled Kollywood Actor in 2014

'Ilayathalapathy' Vijay has pipped other popular Tamil actors like Suriya and Ajith to become the most-Googled Kollywood actor of 2014, according to the Google trends.
Suriya takes the second spot in the list, followed by Ajith, Rajinikanth and Vikram. Kamal Haasan ranks sixth in the list.
In terms of most Googled Tamil actors over the last decade, Vijay again tops the list. He is followed by Suriya, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Clearly Vijay emerges on top among the leading actors of Tamil cinema.Recently, Forbes India released "Celebrity 100" list for this year. Vijay was ahead of other popular actors including Ajith, Rajinikanth, Dhanush and Prabhu Deva. The actor was ranked 41 in the list and is said to have earned earned ₹33 crore through films and endorsements.
According to Forbes India, Vijay's earnings rank is 23 and fame rank is 80. The actor had a fantastic year with two of his films having fared well at the box office. While "Jilla" did decent business at the box office, his second film "Kaththi" turned out to be a huge hit. The Vijay starrer is still the highest grossing Tamil film of the year with more than ₹100 crore earnings.

Vijay is all set to be seen in Chimbudevan directorial, which is currently referred as "Vijay 58." The film, touted to be a fantasy-based entertainer, will reportedly have 'Ilayathalapathy' playing dual roles. Produced by PT Selvakumar and Shibu Thameens, "Vijay 58" is deemed the costliest film in the actor's career.
Ajith

Ajith has also found a place in Forbes "Celebrity 100" list. The actor is ranked 51 in the list and his earnings amount to ₹40.33 crore. His money rank is 19 and fame rank is 98.
Ajith's last release "Veeram" did good business at the box office and grossed over ₹100 crore at the worldwide box office, according to Forbes India.
Thala, as Ajith is fondly referred by his fans, is starring in Gautham Menon's "Yennai Arindhaal," which is one of the most-awaited Tamil films of 2015.
Suriya
Suriya's 2014-release "Anjaan" was panned by critics and the film also failed to set the cash registers ringing. The actor has teamed up with director Venkat Prabhu for a fantasy entertainer, which is expected to hit the screens in March 2015.
Rajinikanth

For the first time in several years, Rajinikanth had two releases in 2014. His "Kochadaiiyaan" is deemed as India's first 3D film using motion capturing techniques. The film got mixed reviews from critics and failed to fare well at the box office.
The actor's second release of the year – "Lingaa" – has taken huge openings at the box office. However, the film's box office status will be known in a week or two.
Kamal Haasan
The actor's "Vishwaroopam 2" was expected to hit the screens this year, but did not. In 2015, it will be a triple treat for 'Ulaganayagan's fans as three of his films including "Uttama Villain" and "Papanasam" are set to hit the screens.
Vikram
Vikram also did not have any releases this year. The actor's "I" was expected to release for Diwali, but failed to keep up with the date due to delay in post-production work. "I" is slated to release for Pongal 2015. The Shankar directorial is among the most-anticipated Tamil films of the year.

India vs Australia: MS Dhoni reveals 'unrest' with Virat Kohli

India vs Australia: MS Dhoni reveals 'unrest' with Virat Kohli

All is not well in the Indian dressing room right now with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni revealing that there was some "unrest" resulting from "lack of communication" with the in-form Virat Kohli before on Saturday's batting collapse in the lost second cricket Test against Australia at Gabba.
India lost the match by four wickets after being bowled out for a mere 224 in their second innings which left a paltry target of 128 for Australia to chase.
The drama inside the dressing room was triggered by overnight unbeaten batsman Shikhar Dhawan injuring his elbow during a practice session but revealing the extent of discomfort just before the day's play was to start.
The Indians had to send Virat Kohli ahead of him but the batsman was informed of the change less than seven minutes before the visitors took the field.
"The first session today was a big debacle for us. There was a lack of communication in our dressing room over whether Shikhar will go into bat or Virat. We did not handle that situation well," Dhoni said at the post-match presentation."We were having a bat at the nets, the wickets were not very good and he (Shikhar) got hit. He didn't react too badly at that time so we thought he was fine to bat. But by the time he came in, he was in a lot of pain and unable to bat. We were only able to give Virat 5-7 minutes to prepare and that created some unrest in the dressing room," he revealed.
At a loss of words to explain his team's shambolic performance, given that it lost the match with more than a day to spare, Dhoni praised the opposition.
"I think Mitchell (Johnson) batted really well. Once you get close to the new ball, the ball goes soft and the bowlers get tired. He played his shots and he was a little lucky too.
Nothing went to the fielders and he was able to score. It was one of those days when nothing went right for us," Dhoni said about the third day's play during which Johnson played a key role for Australia with an 88-run knock.
